T525. Iron Tsuba with Hozon Paper to Shonai
T525. Fine iron tsuba. 7.5 x 8.2 x .4 cm at the slightly raised rim. The nakago hitsu-ana is 1 x 2.8 cm. On the front there is a pine tree with a full moon behind; not sure what those are dangling below the ryo-hitsu, perhaps ceremonial paper streamers. On the back we have vertical lines (rain?) and a Bonji (Sanscrit character). This tsuba, which is in excellent condition, comes in a fitted box with pillow and with Hozon paper from the NBTHK in Tokyo, dated 2014 and giving the work to Shonai (a town in northwest Honshu, used to be Dewa Province, now Yamagata Prefecture). $350.
