T501. Signed Shakudo & Gold Kotsuka, Quite Nice
T501. Shakudo kotsuka with gold and silver inlay. 9.8 x 1.4 cm. The shakudo has a nice, deep black color (better than in my pictures), the carving and inlay continue over onto the sides of the kotsuka, and the back is signed and with a gold seal (I haven’t been able to read this; if you can please let me know). A fiercesome warrior on horseback, probably from some piece of history or folktale I don’t know;. I’ve always been struck by the Japanese artists’ use of a theme, that in western art would be presented as a horizonta, so skillfully on a vertical canvas.
Condition is perfect. $325.
