T458. Large Shingen Tsuba with Paper
T458. Papered Shingen tsuba. 8.3 x 8.4 x .4 cm on the plate (.7 cm across the wire). Shingen tsuba supposedly originated with a feudal Daimyo who took up the hobby of adding wire ornament to older iron tsuba. Whether true or not, the style became established. This Shingen, as is usually the case, alternates brass and shakudo wire, none of which is missing. This comes with a paper from the NTHK, dated 2012 and giving it to Shingen. This tsuba and T457 would work well as a daisho and might even garner a small discount if bought together. $395.
