T434. Iron Tsuba, Bird and Landscape
T434. Iron tsuba, very slightly sukashi. 7.6 x 8.6 x .4 cm at the raised rim (the plate is .25 cm thick). The nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.8 cm. Without the sukashi hole this is a simple mokko-gata plate tsuba with some carving. The hole, however, is the eye of a plover (bird) with its wings and tail spread, making this into a design that is most often see on much smaller tsuba. The rim is nicely raised and there are a couple very prominent tekkotsu above the eye on the rim. The plate is carved: clouds, tortoise shell, and pines on one side and clouds and a stream on the other. I like this one; think you will also. Condition is excellent. $225.
