T427. Iron Tsuba, Yamakichibei
T427. Small iron tsuba. 5.9 x 6.9 x .4 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.4 cm. This tsuba is signed, very faint and difficult to make out, but it has to be Yamakichibei. The logical signature for this tsuba would be Yamakichibei; the work and especially the yakite finish (melted surface) point to the group, if not the artist. There are prominent tekkotsu throughout; condition is excellent. This tsuba comes in a box that is labeled with 1 Kanji; it reads “Shin” which can be read as true or correct. The center post of the box perfectly fits the nakago ana; I believe the box and tsuba belong together. $245.
