T150.  Iron Namban tsuba.  8 x 8.3 x .5 cm.  Shakudo plug in the kotsuka hitsu-ana.  This is an exceptionally heavy, dense plate; as heavy as any tsuba I’ve handled.  On the front you have recessed panels with raised relief carvings of Shishi and on the back the surface is covered in finely incised arabesque and what appear to be dragons (hard to make out).  The seppa-dai are lined in fine brass inlay, as are the recessed panels and the rim of the tsuba on both sides.  Some of this brass is missing and some has taken on a patina that so closely matches the iron that it is hard to see.    In any case, this is a very nice Namban tsuba.  $350.
