M247. Auspicious Iron Tsuba

$375.00

M247.  Iron tsuba with gold.  7.1 x 7.3 x .6 cm at the raised rim.  The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.9 cm.  I call these auspicious characters because I can’t remember what they are.  I’m sure they originated in China a long time ago and were borrowed by Japan.  If you know the answer send me a message please; I’ll add it here.  The raised brackets around the rim were covered in silver (nunome zogan?); most of the silver is lost.  The characters were covered in gold; most remains on one side and the majority of the gold is lost on the other.  The iron plate is in excellent condition.  Now $375.
