M214. Iron sukashi tsuba signed Aizu Ju Shoami. 8 x 8.2 x .45 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is.9 x 2.8 cm. This tsuba has come out of Robert Haynes’ collection; this was his description:
Rounded iron plate with hammered and worked surface and three cloud form sukashi areas. With slight gold nunome dots on both sides. This is the very early work of the artists who went from Kyoto with the Matsudaira Daimyo when they were sent to Aizu in the early Edo Period. This type of tsuba was very much in fashion with the “country” Samurai of the beginning of the Tokugawa Period.
