K226. Iron Wangata Tsuba
K226. Iron wangata tsuba. 7.4 x7.9 x .4 cm at the seppa dai (tapering to the edge). The nakago hitsu-ana is 1 x 2.9 cm. Wangata (dished) tsuba aren’t very common; I’ve had maybe 3 or 4 at most in my years doing this. The front of this one is nicely carved in vines and leaves; the back was, at one time, completely gold lacquered and now is lacquered at the seppa dai only. This is another piece that came out of a wooden box of 108 tsuba found at the back of a kura (storehouse) in Japan. $350.
