J131. Signed and Published Iron Tsuba
J131. Very finely carved iron tsuba with gold and silver inlay. Signed, according to its former owner, by Midori Kawa (I was unable to find anything about this artist). 7 x 7.5 x .5 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is.7 x 2.7 cm. A village scene reminiscent of the work of Kaneiye but in a totally different style. The mimi especially is quite fancilly worked. This was once in a museum somewhere – note the # 941 painted inside the nakago hitsu-ana – and it has been coated in clear lacquer. It was also included in the book Tsubas in Southern California by Hawley (see my listing B801): page 179, #887. Condition is excellent. $325.
