J119. Cruciform Namban Tsuba
J119. Namban tsuba. 6.4 x 6.6 x .5 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.9 cm. According to this tsuba’s owner, this sytle is often called Hirado but he thinks an import from Korea or China is more likely, coming into Japan at Hirado. Whatever the truth, I find this quite charming. The back side is covered in fine cross-hatching with the tiniest remnants of silver (I believe) remaining. $315.
