H391. Unusually Fine Mokume Satsuma Tsuba
H391. From the Holbrook collection; Skip’s tag reads, “Satsuma Kawakami School, Edo Period, Obaki Ghosts”. 7.3 x 7.8 x .3 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is.8 x 2.8 cm. This tsuba has a most unusual surface and incredibly fine mokume texture (layering). I asked Skip about this. To what he had to say on his tag he added that he thinks this is mid to late Edo and a perfectly original surface. Like velvet and in mint condition. $245.
