F204. Kotsuka signed by Goto Mitsufumi. 1.45 x 9.7 cm. Exceedingly fine shakudo nanako plate with gold inlay. The case looks like gold on the front but it is either silver or a copper/silver alloy on back, which is carved in katakiri-bori with tiny gold inlay. The signature is on the side of the piece. The theme is Tanabata (the Star Festival), with kaji leaf and wound yarn (I learned this when I searched for Mitsufumi online and found this exact kotsuka on a Japanese dealer’s site). This comes in a fitted box with pillow and a hakogaki by Kanzan Sato.
