T439. Papered Nidai Jingo Tsuba
T439. Iron tsuba with silver inlay papered to Nidai Jingo. 7.7 x 8.3 x .3 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .9 x 2.9 cm. The raised rim is silver nunome hira-zogan in an ayasugi pattern. Some of the silver is discontinuous (done on purpose) and all of it has been patinated dark to blend in with the iron. The plate is extensively worked with a hammer and is in exceptional condition. This tsuba comes with 2 papers: NTHK-NPO from 2017 giving this to Nidai Jingo and NBTHK hozon, also 2017 and giving it to Higo (why didn’t they say just “tsuba”). The NTHK-NPO paper makes the most sense as this is Jingo work and fits well with the Nidai. My last picture is of a very similar tsuba in Ito Mitsuru’s book, which he has given to the Nidai. The tsuba comes in a fitted box with pillow.
I think this is a great tsuba; you should be very pleased. $1,895.
