T138. Iron Onin tsuba

$250.00

T138.  Iron Onin tsuba.  Unsigned (of course), 7.6 x 7.7 x .25 cm.  The design is myoga (ginger) and dots.  I would place this in mid to late Muromachi, but what do I know?  The Onin group were known for brass, imported from China, inlaid on thin iron plate.  Very nice plate, this, with ample tekkotsu on the rim.  At 1st glance it appears as if many of the brass dots (ten zogan) are missing, but a closer look shows that very few are missing; many are disguised by patina.  The nakago hitsu-ana has been reshaped (poorly done) to accept a larger blade.  This tsuba comes with a better than average box.  $250.
