Shinogi zukuri, koshi sori, iore mune, chu kissaki. The hada is itame with mokume. The hamon is choji gunome midare in nioi deki covered in tiniest of ko-nie: strong sunagashi, kinsuji, hotsure, and tobi-yaki. The boshi is undulating, ending in ko-maru and a medium length kaeri. There is a faint midare utsuri. There are 2 or 3 instances of coarse grain, small and not distracting. The blade is mounted with a shakudo and silver double habaki and in old shirasaya (The nakago is a bit loose in the tsuka; not as firmly seated as we would like but not a terrible problem). This comes with a Tokubetsu Kicho paper from the NBTHK dated 1957 and giving the blade to Sukesada.
The koshirae is, I thik, quite nice, not because it is overly fancy but rather because it comes across as a true working man's rig. The saya is textured black lacquer with 4 kinko reinforcing rings towards the bottom and a long plain iron kojiri. The koi guchi and kurikata are horn. There are some small losses to the lacquer, mostly along the ha and mune. The tsuba is unsigned iron sukashi. The tsuka is lacquered ito in excellent condition over same' and with menuki in the form of sword nakago (which are signed). The fuchi/kashira are plain iron. The koshirae is held together with a wooden tsunagi.
This set comes in a wooden box which is in excellent condition. On the top of the box is written, Wakizashi Mumei Den Sukesada. There are numerous paper labels, on the box, the shirasaya, and the saya of the koshirae. The smaller labels say, Tokyo 205,000 (possibly a price in Yen), mumei attributed to Sukesada, and the sword's nagasa. A larger label on the end of the box reads more of the same and gives a thorough description of the koshirae. I have had this translated and can send a copy of the translation to any of you who are interested.
I think you will be pleased. 6 pounds, 5 ounces. $1,750.
