Shinogi zukuri, iore mune chu kissaki. The hada is a tight, small itame. The hamon is a consistent nioi-guchi in suguba with sunagashi, kinsuji, areas of a shallow notare with ko-ashi, all covered in bright ko-nie. The boshi is a continuation of the hamon ending in ko-maru and a medium length kaeri. There are a few pinpricks and a couple short and tight tate ware, most notably just above the habaki on the ura; otherwise the blade is flawless. The polish is competently done (in Japan I believe) and, with the exception of a scratch under the habaki on the ura, it is intact. This katana is mounted with a silver foil habaki and in well made shirasaya in excellent condition. This comes with a Hozon paper dated 2010, from the NBTHK in Tokyo.

Yamashiro Kuni Nobuyoshi is the early signature of the smith better known as 1st generation Shinano no Kami Nobuyoshi. His working dates are early to mid 1600s and he is ranked Chu Jo Saku by Fujishiro. A well made katana by a respected smith in excellent condition: lots to appreciate here. 2 pounds, 12 ounces. $3,800.
