C176.  Natsuo Taikan by Miyake.  1990.  Clothbound in 8 volumes with slipcases, 10 1/4 x 15″, 2,000 pages or more in Japanese, from a limited edition.  Kano Natsuo (1828 – 1898) was the most famous kodogu artist of the end of the Edo period: the last great master.  7 of these volumes contain documents, many drawings, and other aspects of Natsuo’s life and career.  1 of the volumes is a spectacular book (397 pages) that shows in beautifully clear color photography the wonderful art he created.  Each piece typically is shown in 4 photos over 2 pages: front and back both life size and enlarged, and there are photos on nearly every page of the book.  Huge, wonderful, magnificent book; an amazing set.
