B523. Gotoba In Ban Kaji Ko by Kanzan

$75.00

B523.  Gotoba In Ban Kaji Ko by Kanzan Sato.  1974.  Stiff softbound with jacket, 7 1/4 x 10 1/4″, 73 pages in Japanese.  The Emporor Gotoba (1180 – 1239) was forced to abdicate his rule but allowed many liberties, among them the persuit of his passion for sword forging.  He called on the greatest swordsmiths of Japan to visit him and make swords that would become National Treasures.  Wonderful small book here, showing in crisp black & white photos the swords of Gotoba and the Ban Kaji, the smiths who attended him.  Gotoba signed with the Chrysanthemum Crest (kiku) and his work is known today as Kikugyosaku.  I’ve seen a blade by Gotoba; he was good.

The book is in excellent condition.  12 ounces.  $75.
