B456.  Showa Daimeito Zufu by The NBTHK and Homma Junji.  1979.  3 volumes.  Clothbound in 2 slipcases, 10 ¼ x 14 ½”, 780 total pages in Japanese & English.  2 volumes of pictures and commentary in Japanese are housed in one slipcase and the 3rd volume is 152 pages of translation into English of much of Dr. Homma’s commentary.

There is a common misunderstanding of this book. This isn’t a collection of swords made in the modern (Showa) period; this is a collection of the greatest Japanese swords ever, put together in the Showa period. 313 swords, all important and many incredibly so (National Treasure) are shown in large, clear, black & white photos. This book is huge and beautiful. This title is included in the Index of Japanese Sword Literature on the JSS/US website.

Conditions of all 3 volumes, including their slipcases, is excellent. 17 pounds, 7 ounces. $400.

I have a 2nd set of this book. A former owner has written a near translation of the title on the spine of the large slipcase in English. His name and stamp appear on the small slipcase. Inside the cover one of the 2 Japanese volumes he has written a quick take on the contents and his name/stamp. Inside the other Japanese volume we get his name & stamp again. The large slipcase is a bit dinged, separating along a few inches of corner, and torn at the top of its spine; it still serves well to protect the books. All 3 books are in fine condition. This copy can be had for $300.
