B456. Showa Daimeito Zufu by NBTHK & Dr. Homma
B456. Showa Daimeito Zufu by The NBTHK and Homma Junji. 1979. 3 volumes. Clothbound in 2 slipcases, 10 ¼ x 14 ½”, 780 total pages in Japanese & English. 2 volumes of pictures and commentary in Japanese are housed in one slipcase and the 3rd volume is 152 pages of translation into English of Dr. Homma’s commentary.
There is a common misunderstanding of this book. This isn’t a collection of swords made in the modern (Showa) period; this is a collection of the greatest Japanese swords ever, put together in the Showa period. 313 swords, all important and many incredibly so (National Treasure) are shown in large, clear, black & white photos. This book is huge and beautiful. This title is included in the Index of Japanese Sword Literature on the JSS/US website.
The spines of the volumes are a bit sun faded and a former owner has written the title in English on the slipcase. The slipcase of the Japanese volumes was separating along a couple edges. I took it to a 1st class book binder and he has done neat and inobtrusive repair. Otherwise, the books are in fine condition. 17 pounds, 7 ounces. $400.
