B951. Late Edo and Meiji Period Sword Guards and Fittings

B951.  Late Edo and Meiji Period Sword Guards and Fittings, and in Japanese: Bakumatsu Meiji no Tsuba: Toso Kinko.  Collection of Kiyomizu Sannenzaka Museum.  By Masayuki Murata and Michiko Hirota.  2008.  Hardbound with dustjacket and plastic jacket, 9 x 12″, 159 pages in Japanese and English in equal amounts.  This is a very beautiful and impressive book that covers a topic that receives less attention in other texts than it should.  The metal and lacquer artists of the tail end of Samurai rule turned out incredible work and this book, which is a reprinting of volumes 28 & 34 of the periodical “Rokusho”, with new material and corrections to text, shows this work well.  You can look at the pictures; I don’t need to say more.

The book is in excellent condition and with a consignor in Europe; he will ship to you and my usual guarantee applies.  2 pounds, 11 ounces.  $250.
