B260. Robert Haynes Auction Catalog #1

$30.00

B260.  Robert Haynes Auction Catalog #1.  1981.  Softbound, 11 x 9”, about 150 pages in English.  Robert Haynes presided over 10 auctions of Nihonto and other Japanese art; the majority of the items were fittings.  Unlike other sales catalogs which are just sales of items, Mr. Haynes, the foremost authority on kodogu in the West and possibly on earth, took the front of each catalog to educate his clients.  The front of this catalog is an introduction to tsuba by Torigoye Kaszutaro of Japan.  Apart from all the fine pieces illustrated and described in this catalog, one piece stands out: a National Treasure tachi by Bizen Iyesuke.  You will learn more from a Haynes catalog than from any other.  I have a digital copy of prices realized for this sale; if you buy the book remind me to send it to you.

The spine of this copy is damaged; see my last picture for the worst of it.  A perfectly good reading copy but because of the damage I have lowered the price.  15 ounces.  Normally $50; this one for $30.
