M212. Menuki with bugs and flowers. 3.8 x 1.5 cm each. Exquisite detail here; the carving s really quite impressive. I am unsure of the metal composition of these menuki. Suspecting gold, I took them to a local jeweler who has an electronic gold tester. These tested between 18 and 22 carat but he wasn’t positive they are solid gold; he thought they should be heavier if so. Maybe they are gilt. There is a bit of whitish schmutz in spots; visible in my close up pictures and nearly invisible in person. This is from having been mounted and should clean off easily if someone wanted to try and had better eyes than I do. Nice set and if gold they are priced at less than the value of scrap. $350.
