J140. Iron Tsuba, Nagasaki or Jakushi
J140. This tsuba was shown to Robert Haynes who gave it to either Nagasaki or Jakushi. 7.3 x 7.6 x .3 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is .8 x 2.8 cm. To me this looks like one of the Jakushi went to work for the Nara School (not likely). The iron has a wonderful, soft patina and the gold work differs quite a bit from normal Jakushi technique (less like nunome, more like a true inlay). I see silver and copper inlay also and even a few subtle tekkotsu on the rim. At 1st glance it is easy to pass up this tsuba but it deserves a closer look; I think it is quite fine. $425.
