About my site
Hello, and thanks for stopping. My name is Grey Doffin (that's me with my daughter). I live in northern Minnesota, USA and for a long time I’ve been interested in Japanese swords and the related arts. This website is a logical extension of a hobby that got out of control.
The primary focus of my site is, and probably will remain, Japanese sword books. If you’ve been trying to add to your library you know how difficult it is to find good books at reasonable prices (or even at unreasonable prices). I’m hoping always to have a great selection of books and I’m trying hard to have the lowest online prices outside of Japan.
I’m also selling swords and fittings. I want to state upfront that I don’t consider myself an authority. I will describe my items as best and as honestly as I can, but if I say I think a signature is correct or I think something is from a specific period, that is only my opinion and I can be wrong.
Navigating the site & Items of Interest Box
Clicking on an item’s picture takes you to more pictures and a description of the item. On each item page you have 2 options if you'd like to inquire about purchase or if you have other questions. If you click on "Inquire about this item" a window opens. Here you will tell me your name, email, country of residence, and type in your question. If you click on "Save to items of interest" this item will go into your cart. You can continue to look at items, adding any you might be interested in to the cart, and once done you can send one message for all of the items. Your Items of Interest cart is located at the top right of every page.
On the home page you can also sign up for a monthly email newsletter listing the 15 newest items on the site.
If you find something here you’d like to purchase you’ll have to contact me to learn how much to include for postage and insurance. It would be nice to include a postage calculator and check out on the site, but international postal regulations concerning insurance are far too complicated to have a one size fits all pricing. I can promise that I’ll look for the best price for postage and insurance for you, and that I’ll charge only what postage and insurance will cost me. If you have specific shipping requests feel free to ask.
With rare exceptions I require insurance on your package.
You can pay me with a check, money order, bank wire transfer, or Paypal. Minnesota residents will have to pay sales tax. Unless I’m away when your payment clears, I will ship within a business day of clearance. I’m also willing to consider trades for payment; feel free to ask.
You have my word that I will never share your name, email address, phone #, address, purchases made here, or any other personal information with anyone ever.
Book finding service.
I’m often able to find books not listed on my site. If you need something special let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
Selling to me. Selling with me.
I’m always interested in buying swords, fittings, and books; if you have something to sell please get in touch. I’ll take one piece or a collection, a book or a library.
I’m willing, also, to sell for you on consignment. Talk to me; I’m sure we can make something work.
Once you’ve received something you’ve bought from me you have 3 days to decide whether to keep it or return. You may return anything you purchase here, for any reason or for no reason at all. Contact me to let me know it is coming back, and once I have it I will refund your money. Be sure to pack well and insure the return shipment; I will not pay a refund if the item isn’t in the same condition it was in when I shipped it to you.
If the return is because of a blatant inaccuracy in my description I will refund all of your money. If the return is for any other reason (you changed your mind, it clashes with the living room, whatever) I will refund the purchase price less what I paid for shipping and any payment fees I incurred.
Thanks again; enjoy the site.
